Upperside

  • Male has sulphur lemon-yellow wings while the female is a very pale yellow, often looking greenish-white
  • Their pointed ‘leaf-shaped’ wing distinguish them from the Clouded Yellow

Underside

  • Both sexes have a darker spot on the underside of each wing which is more noticeable as they always rest with their wings folded

Common in England and Wales, less common in Ireland and very rare in Scotland

Habitat

Woodland, roadside verges and hedgerows

 

Similar Species

Clouded Yellow underside is mustard-yellow and wings do not come to points
